Common questions
What are the three statements and how do they link?
P&L, balance sheet and cash flow. Net profit from the P&L flows into retained earnings on the balance sheet and starts the cash-flow statement; the closing cash balance then returns to the balance sheet. If those links break, the balance sheet stops balancing.
Is this a full investment-banking model?
No, and deliberately so. It's a lightweight linked model for scenario work and board conversations — enough structure to be coherent, not so much that changing one assumption takes an afternoon.
Why doesn't my balance sheet balance?
Nearly always one of three things: net profit not carried to retained earnings, a cash movement recorded in only one statement, or depreciation added back in the cash flow but not deducted in the P&L.
