Common questions

What should a SaaS P&L include that a normal one doesn't?

Subscription revenue split from services revenue, COGS limited to hosting and support (not sales), and a gross margin line — SaaS businesses are judged on gross margin, so it needs its own row rather than being derived at the end.

What gross margin should a SaaS business expect?

Most healthy SaaS businesses land between 70% and 85%. Materially below 70% usually means hosting or support costs are sitting in COGS at a scale the pricing doesn't cover.
