Common questions
What do the slope and intercept tell me?
The slope is how much the output moves for a one-unit change in the input; the intercept is the predicted value when the input is zero. The intercept is often meaningless on its own — zero is frequently outside the range you actually observed.
What is R² and what counts as good?
The share of variation the line explains, from 0 to 1. What's 'good' depends entirely on the field: 0.9 is unremarkable in physics and excellent in anything involving human behaviour.
Can I use the line to predict beyond my data?
Cautiously. Extrapolation assumes the relationship holds outside the range you measured, and that assumption is exactly what tends to break at the extremes.
