Feature · Auto Report

Automated reports from Excel. Editable Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Automated reports from Excel usually means "a static PDF you can't edit" — fine for the one-time view, useless for the deck you actually want to send. DataHub Pro generates a fully editable Word document, PowerPoint deck, and Excel summary from any .xlsx upload in two minutes. Every chart is a real chart, every table is a real table, the formatting matches your brand, and you can edit anything before sending.

Why "export to PDF" fails the report-writing job

Most reporting tools — Power BI, Tableau, Looker, even Excel itself — can export a PDF of your dashboard. Almost no-one's actual deliverable is a PDF. The deliverable is a Word document a client can red-line, or a PowerPoint deck the board can edit before showing the room.

So the typical workflow is: build the dashboard, screenshot the charts, paste them into Word, retype the numbers as a table, write the summary by hand, format everything, send it. The tool saved you an hour on analysis and gave it back as an hour of formatting.

What automated reports from Excel should actually do

That's what Auto Report does in DataHub Pro.

How Auto Report builds your deliverable

Six steps that run automatically. You can override any of them or take the default and ship.

1

Excel ingest + smart sheet picker

Multi-sheet workbooks open with a sheet picker. Headers, types, dates and percentages parse correctly. Junk above the header row is auto-cleaned.

2

Auto-selected KPIs and analyses

The platform identifies revenue / count / time columns and computes 4-8 KPIs, 3 narrative insights, and runs forecasting / variance / segmentation where applicable.

3

Editable DOCX with real tables

Word output uses real tables (not images). KPIs as a table; charts as embedded images you can resize; commentary as editable paragraphs. Open in Word and continue editing.

4

Real PowerPoint slides

PPTX output has separate slides per section: title, exec summary, KPIs, charts, anomalies, recommendations, appendix. Each chart is its own slide-level image with title and source.

5

White-label branding on Pro

Upload a logo, set primary and accent colours, and pick a typography style. Every export — DOCX, PPTX, XLSX — applies the branding consistently. Agencies can save per-client profiles.

6

Scheduled delivery

Set a report to refresh weekly or monthly. The platform regenerates with the latest file, applies branding, and emails the DOCX/PPTX to a list. Pause, resume, audit log included.

What your team produces in 10 minutes a month instead of a day

The biggest wins are recurring deliverables — the same analysis structure on a different month's data.

Once the first one is built and the branding is set, every subsequent report is "upload, click, send". Most teams who switch to Auto Report report at least a 5× speed-up on recurring deliverables.

Who automated reports from Excel suits

Insight agencies and consultancies

Every client deliverable that started in Excel and ended in Word/PowerPoint. White-label per client. Save the branding profile. Re-run weekly.

Finance, FP&A and accounting teams

Month-end close, board pack, audit prep, variance analysis. The structure repeats; only the numbers change. Auto Report handles the structure for you.

Operations, marketing and sales analysts

Weekly KPI reviews, campaign post-mortems, pipeline reports — anywhere you'd otherwise be pasting screenshots into a deck.

What this isn't

Auto Report doesn't replace a graphic designer. The output is professional and brand-consistent, but if you need pixel-perfect publication design, you'll still want a designer to polish the final draft. Most teams use Auto Report to do 95% of the work and a designer for 30 minutes of polish on the most-public deliverables.

FAQs

Are the Word and PowerPoint files genuinely editable?

Yes. Tables are real Word tables (you can edit any cell, add rows, change formatting). Headings, paragraphs and lists are real text styles. Charts are PNG images embedded at high resolution — clear at any zoom, but if you want to edit a chart's data or styling you'd update the source spreadsheet and re-export. Most teams find this is the right balance: prose and tables flexible, charts locked to the data.

Can I customise the report template?

Pro tier: pick from preset templates (Board Pack, Client KPI, Variance Pack, Audit Pack) and apply your branding. Enterprise: full custom report templates designed to your spec. The default templates handle most use cases out of the box.

Does it work with multi-sheet Excel files?

Yes. On upload, you pick which sheet drives the report (or run multiple reports across sheets). Sheets that contain different data shapes — say one sheet of revenue, one of headcount — can be combined via Pipelines into a single report.

Can I schedule automated reports to run weekly or monthly?

Yes. Pro tier includes Scheduled Reports — set a weekly, monthly or custom cadence; pick a Google Sheets / Shopify / SharePoint source or a re-uploaded file; pick a recipient list; the platform generates and emails the DOCX/PPTX automatically. Delivery is logged for audit.

Does white-labelling work for both DOCX and PPTX?

Yes. Logo, primary + accent colours and typography style apply to both formats consistently. XLSX summary export also picks up the brand colours where applicable.

How long does generating a report take?

Typical files (under 100k rows) generate in 30-60 seconds. Larger files (1M rows) in 1-3 minutes. Charts are rendered server-side at print resolution, which takes most of the time.

Can recipients edit the report without a DataHub Pro account?

Yes. The DOCX and PPTX outputs are standard Office files. Anyone with Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Slides, Apple Pages/Keynote or LibreOffice can open and edit them. No DataHub Pro account required for editing or viewing.

Does it generate PDF reports too?

PDF export is available on the Pro tier as a one-click conversion of the DOCX or PPTX. Most teams prefer the editable formats — but for static archive copies or board packs that need a fixed snapshot, the PDF option is there.

Is there a limit on how many reports I can generate?

Free tier: 5 reports per month. Pro tier: unlimited. Scheduled reports count as one generation per scheduled run, regardless of recipient count.

How do I share the result with clients?

Three options: download the file and email/send normally; use the public-share link with optional password; or use scheduled delivery to email the file directly to a list. The DOCX/PPTX/XLSX files are standard formats, so anywhere you'd send an Office file works.
