The Chartio alternative — Chartio is gone. Here's where its users (and its philosophy) went.
Let's start with the facts: Chartio no longer exists. Atlassian acquired it in February 2021 and shut the service down on 1 March 2022 — the product was never folded into another Atlassian tool, and customers had to migrate out. What made Chartio loved was its philosophy: BI simple enough for anyone, with Visual SQL letting non-engineers query data. If you're an ex-Chartio user (or you keep finding it in old “best BI tools” lists), DataHub Pro carries that same philosophy further: upload any Excel or CSV and get dashboards, forecasts, anomaly detection and AI-written reports in about two minutes — $14.99/month, no SQL at all, not even the visual kind.
Why teams switch from Chartio to DataHub Pro
If you're searching for a Chartio alternative you usually fall into one of three buckets. Here's what we hear most often from teams who've made the move.
There is no “staying” — the product is gone
Chartio's servers went dark on 1 March 2022. Anything still citing it as an option is out of date. The real question is which of its successors matches what you liked about it: simplicity, speed, and analytics for non-engineers.
DataHub Pro keeps the simplicity promise
Chartio's Visual SQL lowered the barrier from “write SQL” to “drag fields”. DataHub Pro lowers it to “upload a file”. Dashboards auto-build, 50 analyses run point-and-click, and Ask Your Data answers plain-English questions with an auditable trace.
And adds what Chartio never had
Chartio shipped before the AI wave: no natural-language analysis, no auto-generated reports, basic forecasting. DataHub Pro includes Ask Your Data, Auto Report (editable DOCX/PPTX), Holt-Winters forecasting with confidence bands and statistical anomaly detection as standard.

Where DataHub Pro is genuinely better
What actually happened to Chartio
Chartio was a well-liked San Francisco BI startup whose Visual SQL interface let non-engineers build charts on live databases. In February 2021 Atlassian acquired it — primarily, by most accounts, for the team and technology — and announced the product would wind down. On 1 March 2022 the service shut off entirely; dashboards, queries and schedules had to be exported or lost. Atlassian pointed the technology at its own products rather than keeping Chartio alive.
The lesson many customers took: a tool's longevity matters as much as its features. Chartio's users scattered to Metabase, Looker Studio, Mode and others depending on what they'd valued most.
If you loved Chartio's simplicity, this is the successor
Chartio's superpower was approachability — marketing managers and founders genuinely used it without engineering help, which in 2015-era BI was radical. DataHub Pro is built on the same conviction, taken further: no database connection at all. Upload the Excel or CSV you already have and the dashboard assembles itself — KPIs detected, charts chosen, anomalies flagged.
Where Chartio still asked you to assemble queries (visually), DataHub Pro's Ask Your Data lets you just ask — and shows the exact pandas operations behind every answer, so it's auditable rather than magical.
A decade of analytics progress included
Chartio froze in 2022, pre-AI. A modern replacement shouldn't just match it — it should include what's become standard since: natural-language analysis, automated reporting, statistical tooling. DataHub Pro ships 50 analysis tools (RFM segmentation, cohort retention, churn risk, Pareto, variance, what-if), Holt-Winters forecasting with confidence bands, one-click anomaly detection, and Auto Report — which writes a fully editable DOCX or PPTX report, executive summary and all, in one click.
That last one matters: Chartio's output was dashboards; most stakeholders still wanted documents. Now the document writes itself.
Built to still be here
After Chartio, “will this product exist in three years?” became a fair question to ask any BI vendor. DataHub Pro's answer: an independent product with published, self-serve pricing (Free $0 / Pro $14.99 / Enterprise custom), a paying customer base across agencies, finance and e-commerce teams, and UK/EU hosting with GDPR alignment and signed DPAs — boring, durable fundamentals rather than acquisition bait.
And because your data lives in files you control (not a proprietary model), leaving is as easy as arriving — which, paradoxically, is the best reason to stay. If you're still comparing the field, our Power BI alternatives guide covers the wider market.
When something else is the right Chartio replacement
DataHub Pro fits ex-Chartio users who valued simplicity and worked at SME scale. Honestly, look elsewhere if:
- You need live SQL exploration of production databases — that was Chartio's core, and Metabase (self-hosted or cloud) is the closest spiritual successor for it.
- Your team writes SQL happily and wants notebooks and version control — Mode or a warehouse-native tool fits better.
- You're all-in on Google — Looker Studio is free and integrates tightly with the Google stack.
- You need warehouse-scale live dashboards over millions of rows — file-based snapshots won't cut it; consider warehouse-native BI.
If what you actually need is dashboards, analysis and reports from business data with the least possible friction — the thing most Chartio customers were really buying — DataHub Pro is the better successor.
Who DataHub Pro is built for
The ex-Chartio (and Chartio-curious) users DataHub Pro fits best:
- SMEs and startups who used Chartio because it didn't need a data team — DataHub Pro needs even less.
- Spreadsheet-centric teams — finance, ops, marketing — whose data arrives as exports, not database tables.
- Agencies and consultancies that need white-labelled, editable client reports — something Chartio never offered.
- Founders who'd rather ask questions in English (Ask Your Data) than build queries, even visual ones.
- UK/EU teams that want GDPR-aligned hosting and a DPA as standard.
