How do I find the leakiest step in a funnel?
Compare step-to-step conversion, not the drop from the top. The biggest raw fall is usually the first step simply because it has the most volume; the worst step is the one converting worst relative to what's reasonable for it.
What's a good conversion rate?
There isn't a universal one — it depends entirely on traffic quality and price point. Your own funnel last month is the only benchmark that means anything.
Should I optimise the top or the bottom of the funnel?
The bottom, usually. A 1% improvement late in the funnel acts on qualified, high-intent people, whereas the same improvement at the top mostly adds volume that leaks out further down anyway.
