Common questions

How is a reorder point calculated?

Average daily usage multiplied by lead time in days, plus safety stock. Skipping safety stock is the usual reason a correctly calculated reorder point still leads to stockouts.

What is ABC classification?

Ranking stock by the value it moves: A items are the ~20% of lines driving ~80% of value and deserve tight control, C items are the long tail where the counting costs more than the stock. It tells you where to spend attention.

How much safety stock should I hold?

Enough to cover normal variation in demand and lead time over the reorder window. The more erratic your supplier, the more of the buffer is really about them rather than about your customers.
