Common questions

Which KPIs belong on a SaaS dashboard?

MRR and its growth, gross and net revenue retention, churn, CAC and payback period. Net revenue retention is the one investors look at first, because it shows whether the existing base grows without new sales.

What's the difference between gross and net revenue retention?

Gross counts only losses — churn and downgrades — and caps at 100%. Net adds expansion from existing customers, so it can exceed 100%. Above 100% means the business grows even with no new logos.

How often should the dashboard update?

Monthly for board-level metrics, weekly for anything the team acts on. Daily SaaS metrics are mostly noise — the underlying numbers don't move fast enough to justify the attention.
