Which metrics matter most for an ecommerce store?
Revenue, conversion rate, average order value and return rate, with traffic as the denominator underneath. Revenue on its own can't tell you whether a good month came from more visitors or better conversion.
How do I increase AOV?
Bundles, volume pricing and free-shipping thresholds set just above current AOV are the usual levers. AOV is generally easier to move than conversion rate and lands straight on the bottom line.
Should returns be netted off revenue?
Show both. Gross revenue is what marketing generated; net of returns is what the business actually earned. A category with strong sales and a 40% return rate looks fine on gross and terrible on net.
